Jamie Cockrell joined Shoals Kidney & HTN Center in December 2011. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2010 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Prior to working at SKHC, Jamie worked as an Acute Care CRNP for one year and as an acute dialysis registered nurse for 9 years for Huntsville Hospital. As a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP), Jamie works alomg with the physicians to ensure proper illness and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. She examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with the nephrologists. Jamie arranges inpatient admissions, performs daily hospital rounds, conducts discharges in accordance with established guidelines and standards developed within the collaborative practice. She is able to perform comprehensive health histories , physical examinations and assessments to develop an appropriate medical plan. She also performs outpatient dialysis rounds and records appropriate patient progress notes. She is able to provide instruction and guidance regarding health care and health care promotion to patients and their families.Dr. Paul loves to teach and has mentored a significant number of nurse practitioners in the Shoals area over many years. He also continues to precept medical students from two medical schools with a vision to transform medical students of today to excellent physicians for tomorrow.
